Lessons from Cephas/Peter

Tim begins by having the following verses read aloud:

Matthew 4:18-20, Matthew 10:1-2, Matthew 17:1-4, John 13:6-11, Matthew 16:21-23, John 18:7-11, Luke 22:31-34, Luke 22:54-62, and Matthew 14:28-33

We are not picking apart Peter's failures. We are observing a man's life that is very much like ours:  impulsive, brash, proud and arrogant, quick tempered, assertive, and presumptuous.  God is at work in all of our shortcomings so that he can be glorified.

Tim then has the group watch the following video:

Look at Peters life - he is the ultimate example for us.  Here are some lessons from Peter:

People are too preoccupied about their failure and sin. We need to transition from our own human ability and into the Spirit. Peter is emptied of himself and filled with the Holy Spirit.  We can go from being full of ourselves to dying to ourselves, being emptied ourselves, and being filled with the Spirit.

Other scripture references:  John 21:15-17, Acts 2:14, Acts 4:8-12Galatians 1:18, and Matthew 16:18.
